Pitch inspections late Friday night and again Saturday morning gave the go ahead for the game to be played and although it was a little chilly to start with, the pitch was solid and we were raring to go after no fixture last weekend, looking forward to a nice, dry, game of football. The rain however had different plans and started (again) just before kick off.
With a full team this morning, we were looking forward to this fixture after a great game previously against Bramley. The game started on a great tempo with both teams having chances on goal. The work our Under 7's have put in at training is starting to reflect in their game play with some fabulous, composed passing and confidence on the ball.
Our goalkeepers today all had amazing games in very difficult conditions with Laiya, Eryn and Leonie making it difficult for the opposition to score. Leonie did some great saves with her feet, coming off her line quickly to stop any Bramley attacks and you can see her confidence and decision making is coming along every game.
Our defence and midfield play was some of the best I've seen us play this season. Charnock battled for every ball, they looked up for a pass to their teammates and when the space in front of them opened up, they were confident in driving the ball forward.
Neve and Harla both had amazing games, chasing down the opposition and causing them problems when on the ball. Lainey never stopped running and her passion for football is plain for all to see.
Eryn had another great game, both in goal and outfield and is super confident with the ball at her feet, helping to drive the team forward.
Laiya, again was Miss Dependable in goal and although the cold got the better of her for a spell, she finished the game strong, making some amazing tackles. Finally, we had Dece who is settling down nicely into her football and you can see also enjoys it so much and every game will give 100%.
As the game went on and the weather conditions got worse, we agreed with Bramley to help keep everyone warm that all our subs went on to play as well and so for the last few minutes it turned into a 7v7 game.
As the final whistle blew, there were lots of cold red faces and mud was everywhere but it certainly should be a game all the players remember.
Thanks to the Bramley Coaches and players for allowing the game to be played in good spirit and to the referee, Owen, for going with the flow so the game could continue. Highlight of the game has to be Dece's caterpillar celebration in the mud!
Well done everyone, fingers crossed the weather next weekend is warmer and somewhat drier.
