Our ladies started the game a little slowly, allowing the opposition to gain an early foothold in what turned out to be a scrappy first half. Both sides looked to create openings, but chances were limited, with Chesterfield keeping us largely at bay.
Midway through the first half, Chesterfield broke the deadlock, capitalising on a rare lapse in our defence to take the lead. Despite the setback, our team showed resilience and continued to battle for every ball.
At half-time, the message was clear — we needed to raise our intensity and play our football. The response from the players was outstanding. The second half saw a much-improved performance, full of energy and determination.
Our equaliser came from a brilliant move through midfield, ending with a superb through ball to Millie, who finished with composure and confidence to make it 1–1. From that moment, we were on the ascendancy and pushing hard for a winner.
However, in the dying moments of the match, Chesterfield managed to find a way through and snatched a late goal with virtually the last kick of the game. A draw would have been a fair reflection of the contest, but it just wasn’t to be this time.
Despite the result, there were plenty of positives to take — especially the second-half display and the team’s fighting spirit. We’ll regroup, learn from this, and come back stronger next time.
Player of the Match: Millie – worked tirelessly all game, caused constant problems for the Chesterfield defence, and scored a fantastic goal to bring us level.
