Charnock U12 Purple (0) v (13) Scawthorpe Scorpions U12
Saturday 23rd October
Today saw us come up against table toppers Scawthorpe Scorpions who have not lost a game all season and scored 49 goals so far. It was always going to be a tough game and to add to that our regular Keeper Amara had a fractured finger, and we were missing key defensive players in Neiva and Evie. Up stepped Tamzin and Amber to share goalkeeper duties and Daisy in only her 2nd game taking a role in defence.
The 1st half was one way traffic, the girls getting over-run by a strong Scawthorpe side, but we never stopped and we created a couple of good chances, with Harmonie having a chance and Amber going close. As the half went on the girls grew into the game and Tamzin grew in goal, making some good stops to keep the score at 8-0 at half time.
In the 2nd half the girls got stuck in more and started winning some battles in the middle but got caught out a couple of times pushing forward and leaving players unmarked and we got punished again by a good side.
Before the game, knowing it was going to be a tough game for our forwards, I gave Harmonie a challenge to try and bring others into the game and you could see she had listened. At times when she had the ball looking to play in Niana or Lola with some good movement between them A key moment in the 2nd half was a penalty save from Amber to deny their keeper a goal.
With games like today you take the result out of it and look at the positives.
Picking a player of the match today was hard as despite the score both keepers did well, Marnie Amara and Daisy at the back put in a good shift under pressure. Violet and Niana never stopped with some good play in the middle. Charlotte was all over the pitch spotting danger and chasing it down with some good touches. Harmonie was looking to bring others into the game and helping midfield. But today it was Lola - she chased down players, never stopped, got blocks and tackles in and nearly scored a peach of a goal after a great run down the right.
We brush this off and continue to work on team work and basics in training and continue to improve as in bits today we played some great stuff and every week we won’t come up against a Scawthorpe or a Dronfield who have a couple of years under their belt.
