Chesterfield Spire U13 Girls (6) v Charnock U13 Purple Girls (0)
At the start of the game, both teams paid their respects for Jordon Banks. This was something close to the girls hearts as during the stormy weather last Tuesday, they had also been training on the same night.
Following our minutes silence it was a good start from both teams. We saw an energetic burst from Charnock early on and some good midfield passing. Our positioning was good but Spire constantly put pressure on us throughout the game. With their pressure, they scored a couple of goals and half time saw the girls rest and reflect in their first half performance.
We talked about individual player confidence and the communication across the team was discussed and the girls made good progress in the second half, taking on board these points.
We had some good attacks by Maddie, Lizzie, Iris and Leela and following a corner, Lizzie almost got her first goal if it wasn't for some heroic goalkeeping to deny her. Asha drove the ball forward all game with some good sprints and dribbling to pressure Spire, and Poppy came close following one of these runs but we were unable to make that breakthrough. Milly held her position well and made great tackles to win the ball and Melika did some tremendous blocks, getting the ball back up the pitch. Basia got involved on the wing this game and is improving every game. Ruby, Iris, Lizzie, Keris and Diane played well in defence, but we were very unlucky to concede some further goals. Ella had fast movements in goal, but was caught out by some excellent shots. At times tried her best to throw herself towards the ball but many of the shots were excellently placed at her opposite side.
Spire played well and had improved since our last encounter which meant that our girls needed to step up to the challenge and keep battling. Having to work harder will help our confidence and will help us with put in stronger and faster performances, and help with our own learning and team building. There is no doubt that every girl puts in a good amount of effort and it's very visible that their heart is in every game, which means a lot to everyone involved in their development. They reflect well and discuss how they can improve which is a great attribute.
Keep playing...keep improving!
Cup match next week and we'll see you Tuesday at training.
