Sheffield Steelers JFC U13 Girls (7) v Charnock Girls U13 Purple (0)
A beautiful sunny morning greeted us on a good looking pitch and the Steelers looked prepared.
The game began with Steelers catching us out with a quick attack, slipping past our players but an excellent challenge by Iris, averted an early goal. Steelers kept on with this pressure and our girls worked hard to block passes, tackling some strong players. Poppy made several attempts to break through the middle and produced some quality football, dribbling past several players. Steeler girls pressured hard, winning possession at every opportunity and this was the general theme of the match. Steelers were 5-0 up leading us into halftime however the goals didn't reflect the work the girls had put in. There was excellent attention from Iris, Leela and Scarlett during the game with Scarlett also producing many strong tackles on the wing. Asha fought hard to retrieve the ball and an excellent tackle saw her steel the ball, playing a good pass through to Melika.
Melika and Milly supported play well and Maddie made some excellent clearance kicks when called upon. Our girls had enough energy to keep working hard in the second half with Ella being very alert, making several saves on goal. Iris and Lizzie worked well to pressure any attacking girls, forcing them away from the box to wider positions. Leela continued to tackle players, growing in confidence with passes through to midfield. Ruby got involved when called upon and Keris worked hard to mark players.
Steelers scored a couple of goals in the second half and they worked hard for the win but we put in a much better performance in certain areas. We worked hard, started to hear more communication, made some good passes and you could see our teams confidence grow. All in all, a solid game and the scoreline didn't really reflect the type of game it was.
