Crosspool Girls U15s (3) v Charnock Girls U15 (0) - Cup Game
Going into our final cup match in this round we played Crosspool U15s away.
It was great weather for playing football and both teams got off to a decent start. In the first 20 minutes both defences were on top with limited goal opportunities for both teams. Our best chance came midway through the first half with a lovely ball over to the right wing with Lilly P crossing into the box but unfortunately it didn't find a charnock shirt and it was held onto by their keeper. Not long after we thought the breakthrough had come when Megan took a shot from the edge of the box shot only to be denied by the keepers feet. With all our decent play, Crosspool got the breakthrough with their first goal which meant we went into halftime 1-0 down. It was a bit harsh on the girls as it had been two even sides matching each other and so it was a blow going in losing at halftime.
Second half we struggled to get into any rhythm and with Crosspool doing the early pressing, they looked threatening in front of goal. For their efforts, Crosspool got their second goal making it 2-0. We continued stuggling second half to get anything positive going forward with only a close free kick from Morgan which sailed over the crossbar. Molly also had a good effort from long-range but their keeper denied her. As the game went on we looked more disjointed with too many passes going stray. Crosspool got their third goal winning the game comfortably in the end.
Overall, we were pleased with the first half with the first goal crucial to play but the second half was just not good enough. It was the first time for a while that I had to tell the girls that the second half wasn't up to our standards with too many balls kicked away in panic. We didn't win our individual battles and it showed on too many areas of the pitch.
In possession we have got to look after the ball better which will help create more chances. We told the girls afterwards that confidence is a big thing in football and all of the girls have to believe in themselves. We are looking forward to training this Tuesday so we can get started working on things including their self belief.
Special mention today to Evie who was outstanding in both halves. She stood firm and her positional sense and tackling was excellent.
