Sheffield Wednesday Ladies U15s (1) v Charnock Girls U15 (2)

Playing Sheffield Wednesday this morning I knew the girls were really looking forward to this one. With them having a flying start to the season the girls had to be focused and disciplined for this game. Not an ideal start missing 3 players we had to go with a different formation with some of the girls playing out of their normal positions. We knew this would really test us but the girls came through this with flying colours.

I asked the girls to start off with a quicker tempo and not give SWFC time on the ball and the girls started off a lot better. SWFC had the first chance breaking through but to be denied by Ellie. Our first chance came through Megan who hit her low shot into the side netting. Then it was Lilly P turn to hit a shot and their keeper made a good save. During the first half we kept our discipline and were very organised with everybody winning their individual battles. Our first goal came with a lovely ball down the wing from Eva, Megan chased it down taking the ball past one defender, going past another before slotting it home in the bottom corner to make it 0v1. We kept SWFC to minimal chances defending really well as a unit, keeping our shape and frustrating them and going in at H/T with the lead.

We said to the girls at half time to be proud of all the effort you have put into it to get into this position but another shift in the second half will be required to take something from the game. As expected, SWFC came back at us hard for the first 10 minutes of the second half getting their equaliser with a neat finish at the back post. Our girls heads never dropped and we kept going playing the better football. We played some lovely football, looking for the opportunity to get in front again but just couldn't quite find the finish.

At times, the game was wide open and we found gaps in the SWFC defence with Molly playing a lovely ball to Lilly P but just missing the finish and following this, Megan was denied with a last ditch tackle. Another chance opened as Lily P crossed it and Leah just couldn't quite finish it at the back post and another where Hollie was denied with a great run but just couldn't find the finish. After some good pressure and chances created, eventually the winning goal came following a neat ball over the top to Megan who ran through and finished lovely with her shot nestling in the back of the net making it 1v2. This goal ended up winning the game in a game I felt we deserved the win. The girls got their rewards for their efforts, determination and desire and all 13 girls stuck to the game plan and were tremendous. It was very nice of SWFC coach to come over at the end and say to the girls that they deserved the win as they wanted it more. Thanks also to the SWFC girls for the Halloween sweets after the game – fantastic attitude and very much appreciated.

Ellie you were brilliant again today did everything you needed to do.

Shola, Evie, Harley and Morgan you defended fantastic today kept your shape and very disciplined.

Freya Hollie Molly, Leah, Emily and Eva you all were tremendous in midfield today bossed it winning your individual battles and playing some fantastic football in midfield.

Megan and Lilly P you both were fantastic upfront. Megan with her quality goals and Lilly P always looking a threat.

Special mention to Morgan and Molly both playing out of position today but you did one for the team.

Let's hope we can carry on next week with another tough game against Rotherham.

Paul.
